Function / Content

This series consists of maps referred to by the Department of Lands Planning and Environment as Topographical mapping (Military Historical maps) prepared by Australian Section, Imperial General Staff or Royal Australian Survey Corps. The maps show the following information as explained in legends: relief indicated by hachures, form lines, contours at 250 feet intervals with spot heights in feet. Populated places and homesteads are named and shown by symbols; railways delineated; roads classified by surface width and weather reliability; vegetation symbolized; foreshore and off-shore detail shown. Each sheet includes an index to adjoining sheets. Scale 4 miles to 1 inch Index on verso: name of place (alphabetical), feature, grid reference.
